One Size FOE Cover

I now have a VIDEO tutorial online for FOE covers.

An old classmate has decided to start cloth diapering her new baby.  So, I thought I'd sew her up a couple different types of diapers to try.  Here is a step-by-step on how I sew up my OS FOE Cover template:

Cut out PUL and add snaps.

 If doing hook and loop, add front panel loop strip.

 Using a 3-step zig-zag stitch, sew on your fold-over-elastic.

 Pulled tight through the legs at full stretch, just hugged with no stretch
around the wings and front, and pulled 75% stretch across the back.

 My machine settings for the 3-step zig-zag.  I have a Janome.

 FOE all applied.

 Sew on your wing H&L tabs and laundry tabs next.

Inside.

 Outside.

 Finished cover.

 Wipeable Inside.

 Laundry tabs folded in to prevent snagging in the wash.

 All fastened up!

Random Ramblings

Today I was notified that KAMsnaps.com has listed a link to my template downloads on their site.  :)  I'm happy that more of you can have access to my templates now!

I have always bought all my snaps from KAMsnaps.com.  They're awesome.

If anyone wonders if I use pliers or a press...  I just use the pliers.  I am on my 3rd pair though in 3 years.  ;)  I don't make a high volume of any one type of diapers, nor do I do snap-replacements often enough to justify a press to myself (or the space for one).  So, I have stuck with just the pliers.  I like the pliers because I can just sit in bed or on the couch watching TV while doing my snap-applying.

Mock Grobaby and Templates

This is just a trace of a Grobaby shell by request of some sewing friends.  No seam allowance or any assembly instructions are included.  The tabs and front panel are loop fabric.  The snap backings at the front are a full section of PUL that act as the water-proofing for the front of the diaper.  The inside is a type of athletic wicking jersey/mesh.  There are also two mesh-backed snaps on the inside for the snap-in soakers.

Assembly process:

 (This is when you'd add your hook tabs if doing hook and loop.)

 Turn through a small hole in the front.  Sew elastic casings.

Thread and tack elastic.

 Close up the hole in front with the top-stitching.

Add wing snaps (if doing snap version)

Sized Fitted Tester Template

Someone requested a sized fitted template.  This is just a first draft "tester" plan.  The snap placements are just guesses as I don't have a chance to sew any up and see how they actually line up.  I have the template up on Google Docs for now.

I didn't add any elastic casing guides or seam lines yet.  The idea for this one is for a basic serged outer fitted.  The elastic would run along the mostly-straight middle area and across the middle 50% of the back.  :)
