Hand-towels to Prefolds

Well, still no sewing room, but I can explain how to do this without sewing so...
Take your old stained, worn, ugly kitchen or hand towels. Strip first with lots of rinses to get off any build-up.

For a smaller prefold or a larger hand towel just fold over until the middle is 3 layers and each side is 1. For a larger prefold, use two hand towels and trifold one, then lay it over the other (both methods pictured above).

Then just sew a rectangle around the folded edges right near the edge. Use a wide stitch and a 12+ gauge needle. If you want it more flush, you can use a zig zag and sew back and forth over the edges along the sides sort of like an applique stitch.

Ta-da! That was easy! :D

  1. Cool idea! I have a bunch of towels I was going to turn into rags, but I will have to try this!

  2. I love your blog and ideas. Have just started Maternity leave and am looking for some projects. Am really keen on the baby doll carrier, any chance you have a pattern for this yet? I would love to give it a go!
