Changes to the Newborn-Small Fitted Template

I worked up a sample NB-S fitted from my original pattern and decided to make a few changes. I think you will like this one better. :)

Slightly shortened wings, lengthened elastic casings, and some changes to snap placement:

I have put all my templates online for free download and printing.

  1. I would love the pdf of some of your newborn patterns but I cannot send you an email because the link on your profile wont work on my computer and I cant figure out how to change my default settings. I'd love to try and make a couple of newborn fitted and maybe an AIO or AI2. Could you please email me at lacy.reece at gmail.com thanks so much!

  3. What size would you make the snap-in doubler? How many layers?

    1. I do my NB-S fitted soakers a little contoured like this: http://photos.mccallister.name/d/19221-2/100_2099.JPG

They are 3 layers of bamboo baby terry, and about 11" at the longest and 5" at the widest. This is how they look inside the fitteds: http://photos.mccallister.name/d/19025-3/100_2010.JPG

  4. I sewed up a version of this pattern using a recycled tshirt (4 body layers) and 2 layers of a doubler sandwiched in the wet zone made of bamboo. I applied the elastic by sandwiching it between the layers and stitching and then serged the whole thing. I think it turned out pretty cute and was very very quick. Now I have to make a cover!

  22. Hi Arfy! I was just wondering what fabrics you use for the body of your fitteds and how many layers. I'm preparing for my baby who is coming soon and want to buy all fabrics at once. I adore all of your patterns. I have already made several one size diapers using your pattern. Thanks for making them so readily available!

    1. I tend to like to do multiple thinner layers so there isn't terrible drying time. :) I really like regular weight cotton fleece or bamboo/cotton fleece for the main body shell (2 layers and often a thin printed knit outer). Then I do a petal-style soaker either sewn or snapped in with two more layers of fleece each and then a top layer of bamboo or cotton velour. :) For larger fitteds (M-L-OS), I'll do 3 layers each for the petals. I'm pretty sure some of my more recent fitteds posts show my layering style.

  23. Hi! 'm just wondering if I can use this pattern to make an all-in-one or if the snap down snap would cause the diaper to wick outside of the pul layer.
    Thanks!

  24. Is this the same size as the NB Serged fitted? Wondering if this one is slightly bigger as it is named NB/Small? Thanks!

    1. No. Not bigger. Just a little different shape. That one is probably not as precisely names.

  25. Hi! What are your thoughts on using this pattern to make a fleece or wool cover? Can it be done? Thank you in advance:)

  27. I am wondering why there are two rows of snaps on the tummy side but only one (horizontal) level of snaps on the wings. Why do you need two rows of snaps when there are not two (vertical) snaps to attach them to? I hope this comment makes sense - I can't think of how else to word it! Marian

    1. I see exactly what you're saying and I think that this pattern is probably just being used as a guide and that it was over looked.

    2. No. That isn't it. It was modeled after other NB/S patterns. The lower row is the lower rise NB setting and to be used with the umbilical snap-down. The upper is the S setting. The wings only need the one. That is what makes it a 2-rise 2-size pattern.

    3. If you go look at the posts where it is sewn up. You will see photos showing this.

  28. Becoming a parent is both magical and stressful. On the one hand, you have your little bundle of joy in your arms, and on the other hand, you’re stressing about how to care for them. After nine months of pregnancy, a few hours in the delivery room, you’re now excited to take your little miracle home and start your life as new parents.
